Page 8 of The Daily Telegraph (Fri 2 Nov) reports on Spanish research that beer is as good as water after exercise.
Prof Manuel Garzon of Granada University claims beer can help a dehyrated person retain liquid better and that the carbs replace lost calories. I kid you not!
I feel that this subject requires more research, and as club captain I will volunteer as the guinea pig to conduct this. However if any one wishes to help me in this daunting task (I feel a lot of data could be reqiured here) you would be most welcome - all for the benfit of the club of course! |

| Zena, doesn’t the article mention anything about the benefits of beer drinking before exercise? I few years ago I remember running the Benfleet 15 after having a good few pints the night before at a 40th birthday. I did feel slightly rough at the start but come halfway I was flying and just seemed to have bags of energy. The key is to stick to beer and not be tempted to move on to wine! |

You're all missing a golden opportunity; we used to play weekday evening football matches where the scorer had to down a pint before the game started again.
Ah, those were the days - certainly taught you how to kick straight - for a while anyway _________________ Richard |

I don't think I could comment on what works best as I've never performed any exercise without a hangover!

Seems like this subject is very popular,in the interest of research I have commenced an experiment to see how the science stands up.
commenced with budweiser - never did like it
moved onto - 1664 - good taste
Then to my favourite Stella. mmm far too many already
must keep away from the wine, also just remembered want to improve 10k time tomorrow oops
Already proved I have the resistance of a wet bit of lettuce
no more experiments just enyoy........................ _________________ Regards

Bad News I'm afraid chaps some evidence against this -
Young Ben Storey did the Ballbuster on Sunday then tried a few pints and was violently ill!
Fran reckons he is just a light weight anyway, he reckons he may not have had enough fluids immediatly after the race - either way does not look good.
Any stories fo the positive side of beer - post exercise? |
