Ok - so we have now entered - you know who you are!
My initial thoughts are BRING IT ON! However now feeling a bit nervous and found myself biting my nails today! Think I should follow one of our Irish members lead and hit the bottle instead!
Only a year to go! |

I'm in but it was a bit of a struggle. I kept getting messages saying that the site was down for maintenance but I guess it was just overloaded. When I finally got to the payment screen they would not accept my debit card, only credit cards. Anyway I got there in the end.
Zena, as you have completed the HIMUK twice, this should stand you in good stead for the Ironman. The run at HIMUK was terrible, in fact it seemed worse than the Ironman I did last year. At least the run in Austria will be flat!
It will be a fantastic day. At least the start is at a reasonable hour. 8.00 am! Very sensible.
I’d better dig out my training schedule I used for IMCH. The only change I would make would be to drop one run session and add another turbo session per week. I just have to get my head around spending six hours on a bike!
I think I might be cycling and running to work as this may be the only time I can get the training in.
When I did the Ironman before I used a book called “Start to Finish Ironman Training 24 Weeks to an Endurance Triathlon” as a guide. I found this very useful. The training schedule was also quite flexible as it took in to account the fact that most people have a full time job and a family. As long as you stick to the key sessions you’d be fine.
Anyway do we know who else is in yet? I know Chas got a place. |

I've decided to dispense with the sensibe, "do a half first" option and entered as well (if in different club colours).
Is Neil still staring at the bottom of a glass somewhere? |

just like to point out that it was only the one glass of single malt, to help get over the frustration of taking nearly an hour to register.
Great advice (as usual) Ian - be prepared for loads of questions and advice as the year goes on!!
great to see you've taken the plunge Peter. _________________

Somehow manged to register within the 19 hours the website was accepting entries, I wonder why the UK Ironman events don't sell out so quickly?
Does anyone with previous experience know where we stay, I don't find the race website very helpful?

Just to answer your question Ian - 12 East Essex are entered
5 girls - Me, Sue, Jo, Jan B and Chris
7 lads - You, Mark Br, Neil, Richard S, Ian S, Chas.
There is also that chap who answered above - I believe the Monty Python phrase is "splitter"!!!
Also our great friends (although they do keep wearing strange coloured kit!) Kate and Charlie Stannett.
As you and Chas are not Ironman virgins you are probably going to have to put up with us asking all sorts of questions! |

| You forgot John Smith! Anyway if you have any questions please feel free to ask. At the end of the day if you are doing your first ironman your primary goal should be to finish. All you have to do is prepare well and you'll be just fine. |

As a warm up for IM Austria, I have entered the Windsor Triathlon which is on the 15th June, 2008. I think Chas and Gary will also be racing. This really is a first class race. Entry forms can be found at:-
http://www.humanrace.co.uk/forms.html
Anyone else up for this? |

Ian,
I have sent my entry, I am not doing Austria but had set Windsor as a tri for next year.
Chas,

After hearing your description of the Ballbuster last year I have also sent my entry off for this year November 10th sounds like a challenge.
Any one else up for it ?

Steve, you'll just love the Ballbuster. I won't be doing it in November but I'll probably do the spring one in March as a warm up for the Ironman. After doing the HIMUK you should find this a breeze. The climbs are quite long but there is nothing that steep!
Zena, I had a look at that event the other day. I still have nightmares about Exmoor, so I won't be going back there in a Hurry! I might try and find something a bit closer to home.
Glad to see you survived the Norseman Gary. How bad was it? |

| Ian - it was the most 'awesome' experience and that's a word I never use, however I will never ever ever do it again! I was exhausted and finished off totally by the wind on the bike leg, only to discover I cannot walk quickly uphill. |
