Zena didn't mention the rollocking she got for starting her training with a 5 hour ride instead of 3. The training is a marathon, not a sprint.
Quite impressive though given the festivities of the previous evening _________________ Richard |

Just to let you know that Dragon ride entry's are now open. All details can be found at www.dragonride.co.uk. If you fancy making it one of the last rides before Austria i can recommend it, a choice of Gran Fondo 180 km or Medio Fondo 120km around the hills and valleys in South Wales on June 15th it is a great way of getting those miles in the legs.
Now in its 5th year it has increased to 3000 spaces, but it will sell out quickly as it is gaining a reputation as being one of the best rides on the circuit.
If any one fancies meeting up with me, Scouse Dave and some of the other guys from work then let me know. |

| Unforntuately, or fortunately depending on your point of view, it is the same day as Windsor for which I have paid my Kings ransom. Sounds good though. |

Many thanks to Sue and Richard for putting on a great evening Saturday. It was nice to have such a serious session swapping training tips and hints which will benefit us greatly in the months to come!
I am sure the non-competing members of the team also appreciated the swim session video and that enquiries are already made as to where to purchase the correct size swim paddles (large!!??)
Hope we can have a few more of these sober, sombre get to-gethers before the "big one".

Hi All, as usual i'm a year behind the majority and now considering entering Austria for 2009. How difficult is it just getting a slot? I see the registration opens at midnight on the web, do i need to set my alarm clock to get a place?
By the way, if I don't see those of you doing it this year before you leave, good luck to you all - oops, of course, i'll see you while marshalling this weekend. |

Kevin, you need to start the process as soon as registration opens as it will probably fill up by the end of the day. In fact this year it was full 12 hours after registration opened. You can start from 11.00 pm UK time which is midnight in Austria. It may take an hour or two but if you start as soon as registration opens you should be OK.
Also have at least two bank cards handy as it would not accept my debit card. Good luck. If you don’t get in I can certainly recommend Switzerland, however there are a few more hills on the bike. BTW well done at the HIMUK. Did you enjoy it? |

hi Kevin, it would also be a good idea to setup a user profile with active europe before the registration date (and remember your user name and password when you go to register for the Ironman). Registration is done through www.activeeurope.com - it took me two hours last year to complete the registration process. _________________

| Thanks for the info Ian, i'll set my alarm and get the cards ready. HIMUK was interesting, having a mass start for my first competetive open water swim was a bit daunting, but turned out OK, the bike course wasn't as bad as i'd expected - although still tough - but the run was pretty bad\tough. But i'm pleased I did it. I've signed up for the Vitruvian in September which looks like a similar bike course but a flat run, have you done that one or have any knowledge\advice for it? |

In the time it takes me to type a message I get more advice, this is good ;-)
Thanks Neil, i noticed the 'create account' yesterday whilst checking the site out so i'll follow your advice. |

I see that Stephen Bayliss and Bella Comerfield have heard about the EETC outing to Austria next week and have decided to join the party _________________

| A few of us are heading out for our last longish pre Ironman ride this Sunday leaving the Crown at 0730 if any one wants to come along? We intend to do about 40 miles at a relatively easy pace. Mind you if the rumours coming out of Klagenfurt are true perhaps we should be heading to Braintree for some open water swimming practice WITHOUT our wetsuits! |

Ian,
I am currently in Austria at the moment I can confirm that it is F***k'in hot, although it has clear a little today.
I would be up for a ride on Sunday, I will probably swim at lake side on Saturday as well.
Regards,

| I have just noticed that Russell Kober is on the start list for Ironman Austria. Is he not an ex East Essex member? |
