This year's Hogg Hill cycle day will be held on Sunday 9th October at Redbridge Cycle Centre. The afternoon will follow the same popular and successful format as in previous years with a coached session, hill climb, time trial, adult’s race and an elimination race for the youngsters! The track has been hired from 12pm so you can use the tack from this time however we do ask that TriStarts, Tristar 1 & Tristar 2’s are accompanied by an adult at all times

This is a free event open to all club members, adult, youth and tristar, and is our way of saying a huge thank you to everyone who has helped with the success of the club this year by marshalling and supporting us!

If you are planning to attend please email me paulcgammon@hotmail.com and let me know.

A few important notes:

To ensure we can fit everything in we kindly ask that you arrive on time so that we can get underway at 1pm prompt!

TT Bikes/Tri Bikes/Clip-on Tri Bars – Are NOT ALLOWED on the circuit.

All bikes should be in a roadworthy condition, you will NOT be allowed to ride if your bike is deemed unfit.

As with all Cycling events you must have a suitable HELMET, you will NOT be allowed to ride without one.

Please keep an eye on the weather and bring clothing appropriate for the conditions. A waterproof jacket is always handy and a change of clothes for travelling home in is recommended. There are showers and changing facilities on site.

Sometimes there is only a limited selection of snacks and drinks available at the centre so I would strongly advise that you bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink.

Can all parents of children under the age of 18 please ensure they sign the sign in/sign out sheet on arrival and on leaving. It will be on the table as you enter the cafe area.

We have been lucky but in the past some bikes have been stolen from the venue during events. Although you will probably have your bike with you for most of the day it may be advisable to bring a lock so that you can secure it should you need to leave it unattended!

The event takes place at Hogg Hill, Redbridge Cycling Centre, Forest Road, Hainault, Ilford, IG6 3HP

This year I believe there will be a MOB Match duathlon held at the same venue in the morning so twice the fun for those keen enough to give both a go. Please keep an eye out for further details on here and facebook.

As always the Hill Climb and Time Trial are part of the club league so this is an excellent opportunity to grab a few last minute points!

Transition Area
Once you have registered you can place your kit in transition. Make yourself familiar with the transition area; there is one way in and one way out only. It is likely that the transition area will be a grassed area and you will be asked to lay your bike on the ground.

Race Briefing
Will take place in transition at 8:50am prompt, there may be some important changes to these instructions.

Run – 4km (Two Full Laps)
The race will start on the track at the start / finish line which is adjacent to the commentary box position and will be a MASS START. Competitors will complete two full laps of the circuit running anti-clockwise and keeping to the right of the circuit at all times. For safety purposes no headphones to be used during the run.
After completing two laps competitors must finish the first run section by exiting the track into transition entrance as indicated in the race briefing.
Runners must pay careful attention to competitors on the cycle section who may be approaching from behind.
Your race number must be showing on the front at all times during the run section; SHOUT your number to the timekeeper as you pass through the transition entrance
Proceed to the transition area and put on your helmet before you touch your bike. Push your bike out of the transition exit to the bike mount line; SHOUT your number as you leave the transition area and switch your number to the back.

Bike – 18Km (Nine Full Laps)
The bike mount line will be at the side of the track outside transition, push your bike through the gate, both wheels over the line and then start riding.
Complete nine full laps of the circuit cycling anticlockwise and keeping to the left of the circuit at all times
Competitors must pay particular attention to other competitors cycling and running on the circuit at all times, do not undertake other cyclists (overtake on the inside/left) and no drafting!
Cyclists and runners will be sharing. Please be extremely careful of runners on the right of the track
Your race number must be showing on the back at all times during the cycle section; SHOUT your number to the time-keepers every time you complete a lap and as you pass through the gate into transition.
We will be endeavouring to count each competitors’ laps however please accept the responsibility for counting your own laps too. Some of participants have made use of placing 8 sticky tabs on their bike handlebars and removing a tab once they’ve completed each lap. Clearly, when there’s no tabs left turn into transition for the 2nd run.
After completing nine (9) laps competitors must finish the cycle section by dismounting at the dismount line and exiting the track into transition on the left side of the track using the transition entrance
Push your bike into the transition area and place it with your kit in transition, only then can you take off your helmet.

Run – 2Km (One Full Lap)
When you get to the transition area for the 2nd time, put on your running shoes and any other kit you might need and run out of the transition area and through the transition exit.
Competitors must make their way to the right of the track to complete one full lap of the circuit running anti-clockwise and keeping to the right of the circuit at all times. For safety purposes no headphones to be used during the run.
As competitors move to the right of the track to complete the second run section they must pay careful attention to other competitors on the cycle or run section who may be approaching from behind so please no cutting corners on any left hand bends.
Your race number must be showing on the front at all times during the run section; SHOUT your number to the timekeepers as you finish at the finish line on the circuit

Results
After you have finished please collect you kit from transition and use the Cycle Centre’s showers and changing facilities. The results will be available shortly after the final competitor has finished the race.
