Dan - you cycled to the Pyrenees?!
Is anyone travelling to Billericay from Rayleigh by train? If so, wot time?
Also, are we sure it's not an 8am start?
Won't make any difference to my hangover of course! |

I'm now free this Sunday so thinking of signing up for this event -- although I think the 100 miler is beyond me -- seeing as I'm sh*te on the bike ... at the moment !! So I'm thinking of doing the 75 miler. Is anyone else doing this? I hear Chris Milne might be for one ...

All,
It is definitely an 8am start and we'll need to be there for 7:30 really to get timing chips and stuff.

Looking forward to Sunday. I'm driving up from Shoeburyess so if another 2 people would like a lift to save on fuel, less cars on the road, etc, I have space in the car. Guess I'll be leaving mine at about 6.30ish. Let me know ASAP if you'd like a lift, either through here or by text to 07791507585. I do plan to run after the ride though.
See you all Sunday.

'Fraid I can't do the race Sunday now - her indoors wants me to accompany her to a party for the Alleyn Court school head master (60th or something) which starts at 12.30. No way will I be anyway near back even doing the shorter distance. Never mind, she lets me do most other things - so I'm going to do a ride then enter the Southend Half Marathon - should be back by 12.30 (with any luck!) |

Hi All,
It looks like I will not be able to make now, I am currently experiencing car problems near Paris (all though keen I did not cycle to the Pyrenees).
I hope you all have a great ride, I now hope to be back at the beginning of next week if all goes well. _________________ Dan |

Thanks for suggesting this ride John, it was the best organised ride I've done this year. The route was sign posted throughout and the food bags at the 2 hour 30 min point were filled to the brim with sandwiches and energy cake.
Excellent company (as usual) and I thought we looked quite distinguished in our yellow tops.
All round excellent training for our upcoming adventures in Austria and Nice.
The run afterwards was quite painful - thanks to Zena for the jog/walk instructions!!
Wood strongly recommend this ride to anyone looking for a nice well organised challenge. _________________

Enjoyed the whole day..... even if I did get dropped to have a PEE....
Best organised event Ive done and will be back next year.....
The food bags were great and had no issues with lack of food all the way round....
Pleased I sugested that we all waited before crosing the line together..... The reception we got riding through as a team was great.... and agree we did look good all our club kit...
the run was good although a bit to much information on Zena's part..... hope your feeling ok luv.......
Can someone help me with what neil said????

Well done to everyone on a great effort!!! Sorry I couldn't hang around to add to the rousing cheers when you crossed the line together but I had to get back -- we had some friends coming round (about 5 mins before I finished, in fact !?!)
Just wanted to share a few things from my day:
I thought the event was great. First time I've done anything like an Audax or Cyclo-Sportive (or, come to think of it, just sitting on a bike for that long dammit!) but I will be back for more, definitely.
Doing the 75 miler meant no food bag and no signposts for part of the route - got lost a couple of times but managed to head my own mini-peleton for a while -- on account of me having a map and no-one else did.!?! - that slowed 'em all down I can tell ya!!
Loved the route too - my very first experience of the famous North Hill (downhill - phew! ); but familar in places -- parts of the Billericay 10k, the Brentwood 1/2M and The Green Man 5 mile (see my other post on new thread). I took things at my own pace and finished in about 5 3/4 hrs - about an hour after Chris Mi got back But I did achieve a total of 100 miles in the day by cycling to and from Lake Meadows (another first for me).
Its given me a real appreciation for what an Iron Man is all about ... the thought of running 42km after all that (and some!?) is just, well .. daunting! ... at the moment ... Total RESPECT to you all!!
Smiffy -- thanks again for sorting out my new improved handlebar tape. Much appreciated. It made a big difference. In fact, it was soo comfortable that it was all I could do to stop myself from stroking it all the time Ooooh Jaaaa !!
And what Neil said was ... |

Fantastic day - great company and very well organised event. Wish I had known we would have got so much food at the lunch stop - I think I must have been carrying an extra half stone of food round with me on the bike (although I did manage to eat a respectable amount of it!) Also thanks to John for the run route - just hope your toe is OK.
